The European paper wasp (Polistes dominula; synonym Polistes dominulus) is a species in the order Hymenoptera, the suborder Apocrita, the superfamily Vespoidea, the family Vespidae, and the subfamily paper wasps (Polistinae). This species of the genus Polistes is widespread and common in Southern Europe, Central Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. The European paper wasp has variable yellow and black patterns on the abdomen. The head is yellow and has a black spot in the middle. The antennae are yellow from the 3rd segment on.
