The meal moth prefers to live in bakeries, food warehouses and in mills. Their diet consists of straw, seeds, flour, cereals and vegetable waste.
>> Moths & Butterflies -> Moths -> Meal Moth
The field digger wasp reaches body lengths of 7 - 14 mm. The females, are at least 11 mm in length and are thus significantly larger than the males, whose body length does not exceed 11 mm. The body size is determined primarily by the food supply during the larval period. The male larvae are apparently less dominant than the females when feeding.
>> Wasps -> sphecoid wasps -> Field Digger Wasp
These beetles are predominantly diurnal and are often found near building openings as they attempt to enter in order to lay their eggs in the vicinity of possible food sources for their larvae. Fertilized females lay up to 60 eggs in small holes or other hiding places.
>> Beetles -> Skin beetles -> Attagenus smirnovi
The larvae of Attagenus smirnovi are about 7 mm long with a bronze-brown upperside and a yellowish brown underside. The larvae avoid light and their development) is depending on environmental conditions (food, humidity, temperature), lasting about 1 year, during which they shed their skins about twelve times. The larvae feed on a variety of animal products, particularly substances in animal hair. When they are disturbed, they feign death.
>> Beetles -> Skin beetles -> Attagenus smirnovi
The larvae present a major problem in homes and stores particularly when they occur en masse as they cause serious damage to textiles and their excrement can cause severe food contamination.
>> Beetles -> Skin beetles -> Attagenus smirnovi
En masse they (is this the beetle or the larvae) can cause considerable damage to textiles in houses or in storage. Moreover, they contaminate food stocks, making them unfit for human consumption.
>> Beetles -> Skin beetles -> Anthrenus pimpinellae
The small fruit fly is found whereever organic material is fermentating, such as overripe fruit, milk, beer, wine, yeast dough or decaying fungi, and these, with the micro-organisms contained in them, are used as food for the larvae.
>> Flies -> Drosophilidae -> Small fruit fly
