Seite 1 von 1 | | | | Engerling | Engerlinge sind Käferlarven der Überfamilie Scarabaeoidea. Häufig werden nur die Larven der Maikäfer und Junikäfer als Engerlinge bezeichnet.
Engerlinge werden etwa bis zu 50 mm lang. Sie schlüpfen mehrere Wochen nach der Eiablage und leben bis zu mehreren Jahren in Erdhöhlen, wo sie sich anfangs von Humus, später von Graswurzeln, Krautwurzeln oder auch von Baumwurzeln ernähren. Am Ende der Larvenzeit (im Sommer) verpuppen sich die Engerlinge und schlüpfen mehrere Wochen später als erwachsene Käfer. Die Käfer überwintern in Erdhöhlen und sind ab April im Freien zu beobachten. | | |
