Melanostoma mellinum produce two new generations a year. The first is active from April or May, the second from September or October. Waved umber are active from April to May. From May to June, the caterpillars of the first new generation appear. They are active as butterflies in July and August. The caterpillars of the second new generation develop in August or September.

...sorrel (Rumex acetosella), field sagewort, ribwort plantain (Plantago lanceolata), Achillea, andworts (Minuartia), heron’s bill (Erodium), blackberry (Rubus), and Agropyron or dwarf everlast (Helichrysum arenarium).
