Adult Lagria hirta reach body lengths of 7 - 16 mm. Their bodies are elongated, have a black base colour and are covered with dense yellowish-brown hair. The head is black, long and narrow and has medium-length antennae. The antennae are also black and comprise 11 segments. The chest section (thorax) and abdomen are long, narrow, black and shiny.

... the sides and bears a transparent cyst (the identifying characteristic for all Conopidae). The underside of the female’s face, has a whitish-yellow shimmer with a dark keel. Their compound eyes are large and striking and allow them to see well. The antennae are black with a brown 3rd segment, fan-shaped and stand on humplike black projections which have yellow edges, and (as well as the trunk) the antennae are longer than the head.

... present in Europe, the majority of scoliid wasp species are black and yellow. Male specimens of the subfamily Proscoliinae are almost uniformly black in colour, while females are predominantly of a reddish hue. Scoliidae are more or less hairy. The antennae of the males are straight and divided into 13 segments, while the shorter antennae of the female are heart-shaped or spiral and consist of 12 segments. The mouth parts include an extended proboscis even at the lower calyx which allows easier access to the nectar. Between the first and second segment (sternite) of the abdomen is a...

...m the genus Rhinocoris, but they are much smaller. The body colour varies from grey-brown to dark grey. The abdomen, however, is red in colour. The head of these insects is slightly round in shape. The distance between their eyes and the base of the antennae is about the same distance as between the eyes and the back of the head. The fourth segment of the antennae (which are always bent) is about the same length as the innermost antennal segment.

Adult Nezara viridula reach body lengths of 12 - 16 mm. Their bodies are egg or shield shaped and dull green in colour. The upper surface of their bodies has individual or converging little pits, often with a whitish rim. The head and antennae are dull green. The antennae are divided into 5 segments. The eyes can be red or black in colour.

...les have red compound eyes which are almost directly beside each other, while there is a distinct gap between those of the females. There are several simple eyes (ocelli) on the top of the head. The mouthparts are designed for licking up juices. The antennae are tripartite and have short bristles, whereas in Melanostoma mellinum, the antennae are almost completely hairless.

Adult Anthrenus pimpinellae reach body lengths of 2 - 4. 5 mm. Their bodies are relatively small and oval in shape. The upper surface is covered with scales and has a black base colour. The antennae have eleven segments, the last three of which form a club. The pronotum (neck plate) is covered with reddish-yellow and white scales, with darker patches in the middle and at the sides. The edges of the pronotum also have a distinct antennae furrow. Close to the middle of the black elytra ( wing covers) a broad white stripe can be seen, and there are white spots laterally at the end. The elytra have reddish scales at the seam where they meet and above the peaks.

...ase colour. The upper surface has a light gold, bronze or silver metallic sheen and is covered in a fine powder. The head and neck of the males are densely covered with long, black hair, while the females are lighter, shorter and less hairy. The antennae are whitish. In the males, they are 55 – 60 mm, about three times longer than the wings. In the females the antennae are about half as long as in the males. The green longhorn reaches wingspans of 14 - 18 mm. The front wings are about 4 mm in width when folded, with a shiny, metallic green, bronze or silver sheen. The hind wings are black and have a bluish-violet ...

The antennae are an identifying characteristic for assignment to a particular family and they can be filiform, serrated or feathered. Their mouthparts are highly specialized. The length of the proboscis varies dramatically and may be up to 280 mm in subtropical...

.... They are protected from the cold by hair which is mostly yellow, white or black in color. The colouring of the bumblebee varies from type to type. Bumblebees eat using a proboscis, which can vary in length. They have one pair of compound eyes , antennae and six legs.
