The thorax in both sexes is yellowish brown to olive-brown. The abdomen of the females isup to 34 mm in length and dark with a mesh-like pattern and 2 black bands running lengthwise. In older females the abdomen may turn blue (through coverage with wax). The 2nd to 7th abdominal segments of the older males (excreted by wax that adheres to the surface) are also a powdery blue. The abdomen of the males reaches lengths of 30 - 35 mm. Young males also have a lattice like pattern on the abdomen. The tip of the abdomen - 8th to 10th segment - darkens considerably after mating.

...nd yellow stripes. They have red to red-brown stripes on the wing covers which at the edge of the pronotum look like a triangle. This colouration acts as camouflage making the bug difficult to distinguish from its environment. The colouration of the abdomen’s upper surface changes seasonally and has green, brown and reddish tones. The head, pronotum and scutellum are covered in black dots. The keel of the abdomen’s roof shaped underside has a sting-like appendage. Beside the legs are defensive glands, which produce secretions with an unpleasant odour, when there is a threat from their natural enemies (i. e. birds). ...onical during the early stages of development. They are whitish yellow-orange in colour, have brown heads, and are covered in numerous bristles. There is a pair of bristles on both the middle of the neck and scutellum. On the upper side of the abdomen, a yellowish-red midline is visible. It runs across all segments. Next to it (on each segment) is one pair of brown bristles. There is a dark-brown dot on both edges of each segment. . The outer sides of the abdomen also have some bristles and there are more at the end of the abdomen.
>> Beetles -> Leaf beetle -> Brassy willow beetle
The abdomen is black, comprises 10 segments, 8 of which move, and bears pairs of blue and green stripes, the last of which are blended together forming a patch. These stripes differentiate Aeshna cyanea from other Aeshna species. The colour of the abdomin...

The colour of the abdominal markings differ according to age and gender.). On the upper surface of the abdomen of the males are blue to blue-green or sometimes yellow pairs of spots; in the females greenish hues predominate. The females have an ovipositor at the end of their abdomens, whereas the males have claspers with which they hold the female during mating. The females have a cylindrical abdomen.

Arachnids, in contrast to insects, have 8 instead of 6 legs. Instead of compound eyes arachnids have 8 simple eyes. The head and chest are one unit (prosoma). The prosoma is followed by the abdomen which is not divided and mostly appears in a bigger size. They are a member of the subphylum Chelicerata having the chelicerae – the appendages which appear before the mouth - which give the group its name. On the end of the Chelicerata are retracta...

...on glands. The mouthparts (which also are part of the genitals on the male) are to find on the head too. Attached to the prosoma are 4 (six to seven jointed) leg pairs, which (together with the sensitive hairs) build an important sense organ. On the abdomen of the female spiders (Araneae) the genital openings (epigynes) can be found at the bottom. On the underside of the spider’s abdomen is the anus surrounded by 4 to 8 warts. These warts belong to the spider’s silk-spinning organ (spinneret).

The reddish-yellow to reddish-brown pronotum has a faint white line in the centre, which is also sometimes absent. The colour of the scutellum is similar to that of the pronotum but is brighter at the end. The end is split in two. The abdomen is oval, has markings in black and ochre and is partially covered by the wings. The penultimate (6th) segment of the abdomen has a black upper surface with five, bright irregular spots. The edges of the abdomen have a yellowish-brown and black pattern. The wingspan is about 14 mm. The front section of the wing is leathery and has a fine, dense stippling, while the rear section has a glass-like shine with numerous veins. The legs are brown to yellowis...

...ace of the thorax is yellowish, reddish and whitish in colour and has a wide, somewhat darkened median stripe, in which a bright line runs lengthwise. The scutellum (small triangular plate on the thorax) is bright turquoise. Each segment of the abdomen has a light brown andreddish brown pattern on it and a long shiny green stripe lengthwise on the upper surface. In male specimens the posterior part is often red or reddish brown in colour. The Pond olive dun is able to swim by moving its abdomen up and down (making a wriggling motion). 7 pairs of gills are located laterally, the first six pairs of which work almost continuously. At the end of its abdomen it has 2 long and hairy (whitish and filamentary structured) tail appendages (Cerci), which are much longer than the entire body. The front wings are crystal clear (like glass) and have very noticeable dark veins. The rear wings are missing.

Adult Gasteruption jaculator reach body lengths of 10 - 18 mm. The base colour of the body is black. Parts of the body are red in colour. The abdomen is larger at the posterior end. A striking feature of the Gasteruption jaculator is the upright position of the abdomen in flight. In resting position, the abdomen is pulled in a slight downward or upward curve. The wings are then folded along its length. The femurs of Gasteruption jaculator are thick at the end like clubs.
>> Wasps -> Gasteruptiidae -> Gasteruption jaculator
The abdomen is connected to the chest (thorax) by a narrow joint only, and it clearly stands out from the front of the body, and is black with diagonal stripes of a whitish-yellow or yellow colour. The abdomen of the males is long and slender and has a yellow stripe. The abdomen appears slightly shorter in the females and is round to oval in shape with a white or yellowish-white stripe. The wings bases and the legs of the males are yellow. Dark bands and spots are clearly visible on the legs above the red feet (tarsi). The ...

The body of the bee - as normally is the case with all insects - comprises three parts: head, chest, abdomen. The facial features include - eyes, two sensors which serve as a nose, mouth and mouth parts comprising two strong mandibles (jaws) and a proboscis. ...s, two sensors which serve as a nose, mouth and mouth parts comprising two strong mandibles (jaws) and a proboscis. There are two pairs of thin wings and six legs attached to the chest. But the largest part of the body, the yellow-black ‘ringed’ abdomen with the poisonous sting, is the hallmark of the bee. Bees with poisonous stings are part of the Aculeata group.
